raindrops in Providence

picture from the Graduate Student Bar, my favorite bar

Hola!
I am enjoying my last few nice days here and what makes weather - it rains 72 hours in tubs!
But that is for New England, especially for Providence normal spring-summer weather!
One day you walk around in shorts, it was snowing and suddenly the whole city is under water! Throughout the region there are now high water! Hopefully the trains continue tomorrow.
Here is an article of the floods a "serious" newspaper, the crown
I am so happy my waterproof shoes to have bought :-)

but must be happy because it was during my stay, almost never rained and the winter has been mild and little snow rleativ (as opposed to Germany).

Brown Sports

Hello love her!
a brief report of one of my favorite pastimes, the sport !
Everyone knows that sport is technically in the U.S. going on in the universities a lot more than in Germany.
begins here already in the sport the school at a high level of pay and then often
off at state universities, if you should get a scholarship. Since
require the universities a lot of tuition fees, they obviously put a lot into the sport. But only the college students are allowed in the various sports teams. That is four years sport at a high level and then continues with the Graduate School (Law School, Medical School ,...) or perhaps equal to the professional career. Unfortunately, the awards
Ivy League (Brown, Harvard, Cornell, Dartmouth, Princeton, Yale, Penn), no sports scholarships, as they put more emphasis on the academic. For these Reason, the Sate University of the Ivy League often superior to :-) So often play only the Ivy universities against each other, because the performance difference would be much too big.
But it was still always fun to go to the games! Check out the pictures here look at it!

by my Orthopaedic Elective I came also as already mentioned for Brown Atheltic Sports Medicinie where I had spent the last three months. It was really great, because I saw two times a week only sports injuries and in virtually any sport!
I have really seen a lot there and taken away!

Bown Football vs. Princeton

Hockey vs. Brown. Cornell

Lacrosse vs. Brown. Quinnipiac
Basektball vs. Brown. Harvard

typical NHL ... one of the many brawls
Since January I train so hard for our team again in the triathlon league.
Since the great Brown Sports Center:
with indoor track, stepper and weight rooms, basketball courts, volleyball, long jump, ...
Next to it there is the Brown Bubble Center. A temporary swimming pool, just because a new one is built for 40 million dollars.
I have here the last few weeks my heruntergepult kilometers.
That's it :-)
Machts gut,
keep on running

Best Athletes Foot Creams

Where the triathletes still wear cowboy boots - Howdy!

----------Erinnerung: Wenn man auf Bilder klickt werden sie größer!!!----------

Howdy Cowboys and Cowgirls!
Ich habe zusammen mit meinen zwei Freunden Scarlet und Tim (Scarlet studiert mit mir im Semester und startet für die Tria Bundesliga Tim and , the 2009 is made with Buschütten German champion and the ITU Triathlon World Cup starts) with a sports-loving lawyer named Fred in the beautiful area of Austin, West Lake in the Hills, used to. Fred is a 40-year-old bachelor who enjoys his work alongside the athletes life.
Our daily routine usually began early in the morning with a swim. Often we are in the 30m pool " Big Stacy " (including very complicated paths and swimming, when one is accustomed to 25m!) And have brought us our first tan . Towards the end of my stay we are the "Master Swimming Program" went to clock started at 7:30 in the morning and who knows me better: It was a bissel early for me. It was worth it because we were trained by Sandra "Sandy" Neilson . Sandy had for the USA at the 1972 Olympics in Munich, won three gold medals in swimming, including one 100m freestyle at the top honor! She and her husband Keith O'Bell (Swimcoach USA '88) made us a great daily workout. Then we went for the first time in the hot tub (what Tim and me was the best part about the whole thing :-)) I was initially quite
concerned about my knee , ached for it to easy swimming training already! But with the super drug "field", the knee ligament and daily super cool I got to make ends meet!

After our first wheel unit I was shocked a little bit because we went on busy highways ... But in the days that it happened but I still like me in my dreams had brought to Texas: Beautiful streets, every now and then Texas ranches and hills! Oh man, the hills were really strange. These were not correct pitches, it was more like a roller-coaster ride up and down more in rapid succession. But I took the cycling great, especially with the fact that my Knee held up well! ( 3x knock on wood )

Sent I am unfortunately not , but I did not want to risk really, because cycling was important to me (run record: last day still a slow 20 min run).

So I'm in the 8 days in total swimming very much (around 40 km), but this only drove the 400km bike. But better than nothing, I would say! In addition, it must be said that the 1st League with the slipstream release this year are critical, especially swimming and running is! (Running is somehow always)

MTBike with Fred and Sabine

Austin for the spring or fall days perfect for living. When I flew to Texas, I had expected much more. I thought Texas was like in the Western movies more of a desert and the people are tough, but I was surprised. At least in Austin blooms all, there are many lakes, the Colorado River, across typical American bars with live bands, many old Amieschlitten and as has been told many hills!

mandatory police image (note my belt buckle for the rodeo)
course, I had in Texas sometimes a real Rodeo with cowboys and girls!
Thanks Fred, Scarlet and Tim for this period and the training!

came after 10 days of fun and I practice in Austin at midnight on Providence Airport "home" and was met by Rehsma.
my Picasa web album
is unfortunately a long course technically full, but you're welcome to look at Tim's web album , because we usually have pictures done together. The two are still two more weeks in Texas, so why not wonder at some point I'm never on it!

began Unfortunately, the unexpected white "Spring Breaks" (U.S. spring break) at Brown University on Friday and I had to say goodbye for the last three days of all my friends. So I had a marathon of appointments before me: For breakfast, lunch, dinner and bar, I met with friends and adopted, but today to light the world is so small become that I know in a few good friends that I will see her again soon! Here are a few pics of the three days ...

Oh yes, I had almost forgotten it. There is now a swimming pool from Brown because of Spring Break is also closed and I keep my good swimming form must somehow, I've changed my mind and a well made smart YMCA swimming pool found. The catch was that you can use not only the swimming pool, but buy a more expensive monthly pass ($ 47) must be, but everything as spinning, weight room, includes, etc., but fortunately was the receptionist a "lady" and not Mr. :-) After a nice conversation (let's say in the direction of "Flirting"), I could push the price for 5 days at $ 15. Also added on the day still held a YMCA swimming competition which I had to join! Posted. We had time to swim 2500m. And I could enter my first and probably last win of the season .

euer Biro

Is There A Universal Combination For Lock?

10 days of training camp Austin, Texas

Hi Sportfreunde,
alles fit?

Zwar macht wearing short pants here at Brown want more, but that will not return to Germany to be much different! So
home to fit on you, and not long and I am with you. Anticipation is the best pleasure :-)
is now first there: From the Route 35!
:-) Take care,

Snowboarding at the Okemo Mountain, Vermont

Hi friends,
matching the end of the Winter Olympics I'm with Jon, a friend here to Vermont to Okemo Mountain to went snowboarding . We have joined 30 other students and Brown set off in the morning by 5 clock of Providence by bus.

The State of Vermont south of Iceland and Rhode hostel is the Okemo Mountains. A mountain with 2,500 feet altitude ((= 800 meters). Not very comparable with Austria, but since it snowed on the weekend very much, were Schee the conditions well unbelievable! And snow is a dream for Boarders! :-)

We are driven by clock to 16 and had our fun! Clock at night against 21 we are tired but happy then arrived back in Providence.
As previously reported, have been nearly one and a half weeks Catherine, Niklas and Franz (Kathrinas friend) here in Providence, and live with me. I live now well on the couch in the living room :-)

I am DONE! 6 months work over ...

Hi Folks,

Mein vorerst letztes Erlebnis in der amerikanischen Medizin I was in the world of kidney disease, so the Nephrology (= Greek nephron, the kidney). At first I was in my super Elective Orthopaedics discouraged a bit since the first day I was a little overwhelmed and I had after a month of pure muscle force my brain to switch back to thinking. But I was lucky that I have a super Fellow Dr. Fuad Said (usrprünglich from Jordan), who is trying to me like no other doctor in my six months to explain everything. He showed me things all day and was on its way, very pleasant. Also my Attending Dr. O'Bell and Dr. Bayliss was very impressed by the teaching. So they gave me has regularly the one-hour panel private lessons with topics that I am interested or interesting patient cases. I have seen many rare kidney diseases, as well as daily Current: Acute renal failure, myeloma kidney, dialysis and many Glomerulonephriten Pat ient.
A majority of the patients were in intensive care and were therefore not the best forecasts.
Work in the nephrology has not been terribly long, and so I had every day on average one or two new patients and patients continue to pursue my old daily.
so he went after the "morning report" to my old patients, and I wrote continuing treatment in the Act, after I had seen the patient, new laboratory tests and investigations. In between I was depending, usually a phone call from other doctors who want to give us advice as kidney doctors happy, so I had to pick up the new patient.
After the noon-Conference (with fantastic food: Miriam Hospital Cafetria soo what is better!), We made the top doctor's visit with my attending, which supplemented my pace notes or apparent.
To distinguish from different kidney diseases, I was usually in all patients Urinunt invited under the microscope . That was the nice thing is that I myself have learned to diagnose diseases and urine samples did not have to wait for the laboratory to which we have known about the often even better. (a picture of a brown cast a moddy ATN (acute tubular necrosis)).
saw Yes, this is mostly from the drain. And the best part was that my day was usually completed around 16 clock!
I will never do it later Nephrology, for sure, but the knowledge that I gained here, I will bring a lot. And just because I'm me also the Elective then selected, because I knew if I did not learn here, where else? For all the electrolyte calculations are enough to deter them at times just to get home at a desk.
So in general I can recommend the later Brown students of this elective it!

And if you still remember my Emergency Med reminds journal who knows why that is Miriam Hospital so well known. For in addition to the good medicine (especially medicine, oncology and infection), a few years ago the writer of the medical comedy series Scrubs Dr. Jonathan Doris was here at the clinic as an Internal Medicine Resident, and also embodies the practice Actor Jonathan "JD" Dorian in the series! Who
the series as I know, incredible finds similarities in appearance the Miriam Hospital!

The Jewish Hospital is just small, friendly and provides great medicine.
The doctors rotate every two months between the Rhode Iceland Hospital and the Miriam Hospital, Brown so that the small teaching hospital is always on the cutting edge of medicine.
The sisters are friendly by 100%, there are more behind the doctors and their patients and are much prettier! there Wow, so many good-looking sisters are not everywhere (which I pass by only one other medical student!)
I believe her now get an inkling why renal medicine was not so bad :-)

JD from Scrubs

a week now since Catherine and Niklas are from my semester in Tübingen Providence and sleep in my house. Katha will take over the weekend my beloved room and begins with the pair on Monday her four-month adventure in Iceland Rhode Hospital. I show them as long as you still here enjoying life and where the good food gets her :-)
Katha and Niklas also have a blog , which you can then read more than my continued love.

I have been a very busy few weeks at training and try to forward to the next triathlon season in the 1 League prepare. Our team this year than ever before with 10 very strong athletes busy and there are some performance test in April for the Executive determination (ie who is allowed to start in the games at all and gets financial support), so until then I must be fit! Big catch: I'm back and can not hurt his knee for a good month and a half running or cycling (diagnosis ITBS = iliotibial band syndrome ),... rumheulen but brings nothing here. I am here to build in physical therapy and am trying again with swimming and weight training. Sorry, but triathlon consists of three disciplines. If it all again!

In the next Days I will report more about my last 26 days in the USA.

Until then keep your chin up, your
